It is an important forage grass (deer, elk, etc.) is useful to birds (nesting materials, winter cover, etc.), & can be used as a cover crop or for erosion control.
Also, my personal favorite ... cats, dogs, rabbits, & guinea pigs can all enjoy this grass.
