Cutting into this large, 20–35 pound, oblong melon will reveal plenty of juicy, sweet, yellow fruit. These melons have a dark green rind marked with lighter green stripes. Developed from the very popular red-fleshed 'Mountain Sweet' melon grown in the mid-1800s by farmers in the Northeast, this variety grows in any region with warm summers. Long, warm summers produce the largest watermelons.Mountain Sweet Yellow Watermelon has a deep, rich yellow flesh with a pleasingly firm texture and delightfully sweet flavor. Productive and reliable vines produce lots of 20-35 lb. oblong fruits with dark green rinds striped with light green. Tasty and attractive, it's a top choice for fresh markets. Mountain Sweet Yellow performs very well in the north. Watermelon seeds can be sown directly into the ground in warmer climates. In areas with shorter growing seasons, start seeds indoors and transplant to the garden after the danger of frost has passed.
