About the Owner
Hello, I am Susan and I have been gardening for around 28 years. I recently graduated with a degree in Ag Business. I am currently enrolled at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical Institute. I also recieved my certification in greenhouse management through the University of Arkansa. I have a small home based farm where I grow out all the seeds I list every season on this site. Gardening is my passion in life, but I did not come to the realization that I could do this as a career until a later age. I have a nine year old son along with a supportive husband who helps me garden everyday. Along with running my seed company and small farm I am doing my third year with Americorps, a subsidiary of the CDC. I am currently working with PRI Healthcorps which helps with food insecurities in our community. We created and designed a gardening class in the continuing education department you can sign up for at Beaufort County Community College. We have four community gardens here and we built a 80x100 foot greenhouse over the winter. We practice sustainable gardening. All of the produce we grow goes to our local community in need and our food bank. I really enjoy the gardening lifestyle and having a career in what I love to do. You can follow me on tik tok under shortcake farms for gardening and general life videos! If you have any gardening questions you can email me at shortcakefarms1@gmail.com or by text at 252-402-9688
Short Cake Farms is a small heirloom seed business based in North Carolina and dedicated to preserving rare, open-pollinated, and historically significant plant varieties. Our mission is to make unique seeds accessible while encouraging seed saving, home gardening, and agricultural education within our community.
Many of our seeds are grown, harvested, and packaged in small batches on our farm using sustainable gardening practices. We also occasionally partner with trusted small growers who share our commitment to seed preservation and quality. Each variety is carefully selected for its history, beauty, flavor, or cultural significance.
Short Cake Farms was created out of a passion for gardening, education, and biodiversity. In addition to growing seeds, we believe strongly in teaching others how to grow their own food, save seeds, and reconnect with traditional growing methods. Our work is rooted in community engagement and agricultural learning experiences that support gardeners of all skill levels.
We strive to provide clear product information, honest descriptions, and reliable customer support. Orders are packed with care and shipped directly from North Carolina. If you have questions about growing, seed selection, or your order, we are always happy to help.
Thank you for supporting a small farm dedicated to preserving plant diversity and inspiring gardeners everywhere.
